Four years after declaring a climate emergency, Bristol council’s commitment to climate action was questioned by campaigners and an ironic birthday cake.
The “Tour of Shame”, as it was called, organised by XR Peace Bristol and Bristol Against Arms Trade, visited six arms companies in north Bristol: Thales and Leonardo in Stoke Gifford, BAE Systems and MBDA in Filton, Airbus on Gloucester Road North, and Rolls-Royce in Patchway.
Bristol’s first “warm up” action saw ten people demonstrate inside Cabot Circus to raise awareness of fuel poverty and campaigns fighting against it.
Bristol Kurdistan Solidarity Network protested outside the Filton offices of major defence company Boeing to protest the sale of weapons to Turkey.
One hundred people gathered at The Fountain Steps on Saturday, November 19, for a demo to remember Mahsa Amini, and others killed in protests in Iran since the death of the 22-year-old Kurd at the hands of the police.
A petition will be launched this weekend calling on Bristol City Council to cut ties with a twinned Chinese city.
