More communities will have the chance to join Bristol’s innovative climate action plan scheme thanks to a new mentorship programme and funding.
The Community Climate Action Plan scheme began in 2020 as a joint project of Bristol Green Capital Project, Bristol City Council and the Centre for Sustainable Energy. Six diverse community organisations have since been supported to develop climate action plans within their communities.

From waste disposal, to food growing, repair shops and business sustainability the action plans have opened climate action to people who would never have considered themselves environmentalists or activists.
Now, the Community Climate Action Project partners are launching a new learning and mentoring programme to support and encourage more Bristol community organisations to develop their own community climate action plans.
This programme provides a £3,000 bursary, a series of free workshops, peer mentoring and resources to support more communities on their climate action journey.
Bristol Green Capital Partnership said they would love to see applications from communities experiencing social and economic disadvantage who may face barriers to leading climate action locally.
The scheme has already supported six organisations: ACH, Ambition Lawrence Weston, Bristol Disability Equality Forum, Eastside Community Trust, Heart of BS13 and Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust.
The new learning and mentoring programme aims to support a further 12 community organisations, six in 2023 and a further six in 2024, to create action plans.
