Upcoming Protests in Bristol, October 2021

The next two weeks are set to be busy for activists in Bristol with no fewer than six protests scheduled before the end of the month. Below are dates for upcoming protests and links to event pages.

October 21

Bristol Reclaiming Independent Living are hosting a demo on Thursday to protest Priti Patel’s borders Bill, which has been criticised for breaking international and domestic law.

The demo will begin at midday at the Fountain Steps, St Augustine’s Parade.

October 22

Following a successful return to the streets after the pandemic, Bristol Youth Strike for Climate are planning another Climate Strike on Friday, October 22. 

Meeting from 12pm on College Green, the protest acts as a precursor to COP26 in November by highlighting government inaction across the globe.

October 23

Bristol Unemployed Workers Centre will hold a rally in Melvin Square, Knowle West to build momentum for their March for Jobs later in the month, and to gather signatures to a petition addressed to Mayor Marvin Rees.

The petition calls for no job cuts, support for unemployed workers, and to work with trade unions to pressure the government to support unemployed workers.

October 25

Bristol Defendant Solidarity are calling for a rally outside Bristol Crown Court from 8.30am on Monday October 25 as the trial of Ryan Roberts, charged with riot and arson during the Kill The Bill protest on March 21, begins. 

Ryan has pleaded not guilty and is the first Kill The Bill defendant to do so.

October 30

There are two protests on Saturday 30. 

The first is in response to the continuing cladding scandal that is causing misery for leaseholders and tenants across the country, and jeopardising the safety of thousands of people in Bristol alone. 

National group Action for Fire Safety Justice are calling a national day of action to demand change. Protesters in Bristol will gather on College Green from 11am for speeches from local politicians.

Saturday’s second protest is another from Bristol Unemployed Workers Centre. Bristol March for Jobs will gather on College Green from midday and demonstrate in support of unemployed workers in Bristol and of the petition mentioned above.
